Jowelle, 12, describes herself as not afraid to ever speak her mind. She thinks this might run in the family, because her siblings also are outspoken, she says. Her favorite hobbies include playing the trombone, soccer and softball. This summer she attended camp and had a great time. Polite, friendly and open, Jowelle has many friends and enjoys spending time with them. Just entering the sixth grade, Jowelle is excited about being in middle school. This is the first time she has had a locker and the first time she changes rooms each period. She enjoys going from class to class. To celebrate her first day in the new school, she proudly showed off her new outfit and hair style. Jowelle's favorite subjects are math and science. She knows that she has to focus on her grades in order to again make the honor roll, which she missed out on last year. She may try out for the softball or basketball team. Jowelle's plans for the future include becoming a lawyer. For the present, her dream is to be adopted. Her ideal family would be young, active and nice. A Lifebook - and on-going record of her life, including photos, souvenirs, documents and other items as well as her comments--is being prepared for her. Jowelle looks forward to sharing her Lifebook with a "forever" family. She would thrive with a patient, committed family that would provide her with the love, stability and security that she needs to reach her potential. She is eligible for financial subsidy. Often people think of babies when they hear the word "adoption". There are, however, relatively few infants in the foster care system awaiting permanent homes. The majority of the children are school age and many of them are teens, who desire and deserve the same kind of attention and love shown to younger children. Adoptive parents do not need to have a specific income and they do not need to own their own homes. This kind of adoption is virtually free and many of the children are eligible for financial subsidy. Please contact the National Adoption Center, 1500 Walnut Street, Suite 701, Philadelphia, PA 19102, if you would like more information about adopting children out of the foster care system.
