Juwon, 12, is known for his charismatic personality. He is a little comedian and loves to make people laugh. Juwon gets along well with most people and is popular with his peers. His favorite activities include playing drums, video games, drawing and basketball. Although shy when first meeting people, he will open up about his feelings once he gets to know and trust you.
Juwon is in therapy to work on his feelings of separation and loss. In school he struggles with what he perceives as the stigma of being a "foster child." Juwon is a joy to be around and would bring joy to the family that adopts him. He is close to his brother, Tyrek.
Tyrek, nine, is very friendly and enjoys a lot of attention and affection. He loves sports, especially football, basketball and baseball. Tyrek also likes playing video games and says that his most treasured possession is his Nintendo DS. Recently completing the third grade, he strives to be a good student and does well when praised for his efforts. Tyrek does best when he has an adult in his life that he knows and trusts. Therapy is helping him verbalize his feelings.
The siblings' greatest wish is to be adopted by the same family so they can grow up together. The best family for them would be consistent, patient and helpful as the boys work through their problems. They are eligible for financial subsidy.
Often people think of babies when they hear the word "adoption". There are, however, relatively few infants in the foster care system awaiting permanent homes. Most are school-aged; many have physical, emotional and/or mental challenges. Others are siblings who need to be adopted together. Nearly half of the children are from minority cultures.
Adoptive parents do not have to own their own homes or have a specific income. This kind of adoption is virtually free and many of the children are eligible for financial subsidy.
